About the artist

Helen Garrett’s paintings explore the eternal themes of love, fate and transience. ‘It is the mystery of life that inspires me as a painter.’ Find out more

The last lines of the sun
flood across your face
golden boy.

As I turn to watch you
your steps through the curving hay
towards me,

two deer cross the field behind us
followed by hunting dog
close at the chase.
They leap and part.

We watch
as their inquisitive faces reappear ahead
turning, intent and alert, toward us.

Together
we walk on.
Blessed.
